"Project Based Learning" (PBL) is an approach that involves solving real world challenges or problems. Students are engaged in the problem and attain a more in depth understanding of the topics they explore. PBL helps students apply what they have learned on a deeper level and develop skills that will make them successful in college and beyond.
Defined STEM utilizes PBL through their performance tasks. These tasks utilize the "Understanding by Design" framework and present real-world problems within the context of a career or industry. Defined STEM allows teachers to customize assignments to the needs of their students. These tasks are cross curricular in nature and cover a variety of subjects that help students apply knowledge from many different areas, just like they would have to do in the real world.
